Seatac tourist information
Incorporated in February 1990, the City of SeaTac is located midway between Seattle and Tacoma and is the home of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The city is a vibrant, economically strong, environmentally sensitive and people-oriented community. The airport brings in approximately 14,000 visitors daily, and many stay, dine and shop in the City of SeaTac. With 5,350 guest rooms, SeaTac has the largest concentration of hotels and motels outside of downtown Seattle. Both Horizon and Alaska Airlines are headquartered in SeaTac. The Boeing Spares Distribution Center distributes parts worldwide from SeaTac. But that is just the commercial side of SeaTac.There is so much more to the city.
In the 13 years since SeaTac incorporated, this community has made great strides to bring important, long-term benefits to its more than 25,000 residents and growing business community. Several new or renovated parks such as North SeaTac Park, Angle Lake Park and the Highline Botanical Garden have been dedicated in the past few years. These parks provide baseball and soccer fields, many new buildings, as well as a dazzling array of plants. Angle Lake Park is also the site of the annual International Festival held in late June each year.
An extensive road improvement program has made International Boulevard and other streets safer for pedestrians and drivers alike. Completion of the new 28th/24th Avenue South project has opened the area south of the airport to excellent business redevelopment opportunities. Washington Mutual Bank is constructing a large corporate training center on a beautiful 17-acre site overlooking the airport. The city is working on the development of a City Center, with a new main street boulevard just east of International Boulevard. A new city hall has been purchased for occupancy in late 2002.
SeaTac is a thriving, culturally diverse community projected to grow by 60 percent over the next 25 years. About one fourth of the people who live here are employed in manufacturing in the region. Most of the remaining workforce is employed in the retail trade, professional services and transportation sectors. More people work in SeaTac than live here. The labor force is attracted primarily by jobs in the airline industry and related services. Diversification of job opportunities will occur over the next 25 years as a natural result of population growth and of attracting more manufacturing and distribution businesses to the area.
The leaders of SeaTac have succeeded in fulfilling their vision of the future by transforming the city into the key transportation and business hub for the region while creating a first-rate living and working environment.
