Richland is located in Stewart County in the Southern Rivers Region of the state. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,731, an increase of 56 since 1990. Well-known residents have included Lillian Carter, mother of President Jimmy Carter.
This suburban community just north of Kalamazoo is the gateway to Gull Lake, one of the largest, deepest and bluest inland lakes in Southwest Michigan. Richland is the last urban signpost northbound travelers see for many miles as its Victorian village square gives way to the hills, valleys and woodlands of neighboring Barry County. But if it's golf you're after, stay right here.
Richland is located in Rankin County on the outskirts of Jackson along Highway 49 near Ross Barnett Reservoir.
