Cheney tourist information
Cheney is located in Sedgwick County south of US 54, 25 minutes west of Wichita. Cheney was named for Benjamin Price Cheney, an official with the railroads that opened the west and gave Cheney its start in 1853.
The City of Cheney boasts of a quality of life that is unmatched and the envy of many. Our citizens enjoy the small town atmosphere while being close to a major metropolitan city with an abundance of recreational opportunity.
Cheney is the home of Eastern Washington University, which is an accredited four-year university offering baccalaureate and masters degrees at its beautiful campus located in the heart of Cheney. EWU has a full time equivalent enrollment of approximately 9,000 students.
Cheney is known for its excellent K-12 educational system, with five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.
Cheney enjoys four distinct but mild seasons which, when combined with all our other amenities, makes a wonderful place to live and raise a family.
