Roanoke Rapids was established in 1897, and is located on Interstate 95 and the Roanoke River, just eight miles south of the Virginia border. Roanoke Rapids encompasses 7.38 square miles, with a population of over 16,000 residents, with another 12,000 within five miles of the city.
