Kill Devil Hills tourist information
Kill Devil Hills received its municipal charter from the North Carolina General Assembly on March 6, 1953. Kill Devil Hills is located in the near geographic middle of the area between Dare County's northern line at Caffey's Inlet and the northern edge of Oregon Inlet. It is the most populous municipality in Dare County with a year-round population of over 6,000.
Kill Devil Hills is located in Dare County northeast of Manteo, between Duck and Whalebone along Highway 12 near Kitty Hawk, Jockey's Ridge State Park, and the Roanoke Sound. Kill Devil Hills is the site of the Wright Brothers glider and heavier-than-air powered flight experiments from 1900 through their four successful powered flights on December 17, 1903.
