The Time Hotel description
Welcome to the Time Hotel New York - Brimming with vibrant color and wit, this boutique hotel is a half-block from Broadway, two blocks from Rockefeller Center, and three blocks from Radio City Music Hall. Aside from its unconventional design, the Time’s features include a chic restaurant, a futuristic bar, a 24-hour fitness room, and meeting space with flat-screen TVs. Each of the 193 guestrooms is done in a bold primary color, and provides gourmet coffee, a Bose Wave radio, a fax/copier/printer, and high-speed Internet access.
What to expect: Opened in 1999, The Time Hotel presents a dynamic departure from the traditional hotel experience. Every element was designed or overseen by restaurant designer Adam Tihany, known for his rule-breaking concepts. Color is the concept that drives this hotel—from the muted gray and cream tones in the minimalist lobby to the vivid reds, blues, and yellows in guestrooms. The Time is a hit with the entertainment industry, theatergoers, and businesspeople who appreciate its unconventional style.
Amenity highlights: Illuminated showroom-style windows flank the entrance of this 16-story hotel. The street level is home to Oceo, the hotel's alluring American restaurant. A glass-enclosed elevator ascends to the second level, site of the reception area and La Gazelle Lounge.
Insider tip: Walking on eggshells Well, almost. Guests riding the glass-enclosed elevator can look down to see brown and white eggs arranged in a checkerboard pattern at the bottom of the shaft. It's one of the many witty surprises found throughout the hotel.
The Time is in the middle of the Broadway Theater District, with almost 40 theaters within 8 blocks. The hotel features a chic restaurant serving regional American-style cuisine and a trendsetting bar with a wall of mini-screens.
Meeting and event spaces include the Brown Room, with dual 41-inch plasma-screen TVs, and the Glass Pavilion on the penthouse level.
This hotel has 193 guestrooms, each dominated by a primary color: red (signifying romance), yellow (active), or blue (calm). The color theme is carried out in the tall, quilted headboards and soft bedspreads, the artwork, tiny vials of fragrance, and even in the jar of jelly beans. Each room has an Early Bird rack holding complimentary daytime accoutrements and a Night Bird rack for cast-off clothing. Rooms feature Bose Wave radios, TVs with birdcage-like canvas covers, and windows illuminated on either side by recessed lighting. Privacy is ensured with an innovative electronic "do not disturb" device. Conveniences include three phones (including bathroom phone), high-speed Internet access (fee), and fax/copier/printers. Black-and-white bathrooms have Moulton Brown London toiletries and showers or tubs.
Oceo - Serves American cuisine.
La Gazelle Lounge - Located on the second level; accessible by glass-enclosed elevator.
The Time has a 24-hour fitness room with a 48-inch flat-screen TV. The hotel also offers discounted passes to the New York Sports Club next door. Central Park, 10 blocks north of the hotel, provides walking, biking, and running paths; in-line and ice-skating; birding and boating. During the winter holiday season, the Rink at Rockefeller Plaza, 1 1/2 blocks from the hotel, is the place to skate and people-watch.
