Truth Or Consequences tourist information
The Rio Grande originally ran down the main street of Hot Springs, but by filling in marshes and swamps, workers changed its course. Soon hotels were built and filled with people seeking cures at the springs or enjoying the climate. In 1950 the town elected to change its name when a national television show offered free publicity. Although the name has changed, Truth or Consequences continues to be a small resort community.
