St Marys tourist information

Whether you are living in or visiting St. Marys, our sense of community is appealing. Although residents and tourists come from diverse points, once you are in St. Marys, it feels like home. Our quaint historic district gives us a charming, small-town flavor, but our recreation, parks, and other amenities pack quite a punch. Situated in the southeast corner of Georgia, St. Marys is conveniently located near four transportation networks. The I-95 corridor runs through the western end of our city, and railroad accessibility is available throughout St. Marys.

A quick, 35-minute trip to Jacksonville International Airport is all it takes to reach commercial and international air service. In the same amount of time you can travel north to Brunswick's seaport. But location is only one piece of our success. Solid infrastructure, supportive governmental organizations and an unsurpassed quality of life make St. Marys a great place for businesses and families.

by Georgia Goverment

St. Marys is located on US 24 in Pottawatomie County in northcentral Kansas.

In 1846 under a treaty with the Pottawatomie Indians, the government bought from the Kansas tribe 30 square miles along the Kansas River and gave them a new tract that includes the area where St. Marys is today. A site was chosen from this tract for the Catholic Manual Labor School and Mission. In 1857, the present building was constructed and used as the pay station for the annuity payments to the Pottawatomie. The last payment was made in 1870. The building is on the National Register of Historical Places and is presently used as a museum.

St. Marys is located in western Ohio in Auglaize County about 75 miles west-northwest of Columbus and 20 miles southwest of Lima on the eastern shores of Grand Lake St. Marys. Grand Lake St. Marys State Park, one of the state's oldest, is just minutes west of town on the lake's northeast side.

St. Marys, home of the famous and wildly popular VisitPA Elk Cam, began in 1842 when a group of Bavarian Catholics came to the area to escape persecution in the cities of the east coast. Accordingly, the town is now known for a product often associated with Germany: beer. The Straub Brewery offers tours every weekday and features an Eternal Tap that dispenses - believe it or not - free beer. St. Marys is also a great place to shop for antiques, see historic churches, and visit with the PA elk herd.
