Comment: We booked online thinking we were going to a fabulous resort. We arrived to find that they'd permanently closed the pool bar, restaurant and food court. The property was run-down and we endured poor service, roaches, ants and spiders in our beds! We stayed 2 nights and got out of there. We heard other guests complaining about the same troubles we were having so these sorts of things were occurring throughout the resort. Our advice is don't go there.

Comment: We saw the bad reviews about this place around the internet but we also saw a few good ones and the cheap price lured us in so we rented a condo and off we went to Island Club Resort & Spa in Davenport. We needed to be within driving time to Disney and to Lakeland where my husband's parents are. We figured that only people that had problems would take the time and trouble to sound off and, human nature being what it is, most people who had an ok time wouldn't bother to tell anyone. We should've believed the reviews. Over the years we've unwittingly booked a few pretty bad hotels and this one ranks right up there with them. Aside from being so far away from the main tourist areas and 31 miles from Orlando’s airport, it was almost impossible to find at night (they have no signs anywhere). This place is a sprawling apartment project and not the glamourous resort they advertised. We got in late at night and suffered through the night on the worst bedding that we'd ever slept on. We didn't expect that it would be quite as good as home but hotels usually have commercial grade mattresses and these were definitely thin and cheap. Next morning I got up very early, went downstairs to make coffee and was horrified at the roaches scurrying back into the walls when I flipped the lights on. That was it as far as I was concerned and we didn't use the kitchen the rest of the time we were there. The kitchen didn't look as if it were cleaned very well, either. We were able to park right in front of our condo which was convenient but there was a huge dumpster there, too, and there was loose trash spilling over. This probably contributed to the roach problem and one of the employees told me the condos were right next to a wilderness area called the Green Swamp which is probably full of all kinds of critters. After our kitchen experience we didn't look into eating at Island Club's food area which didn't look like it was open anyway. There weren't many people there and the place didn't look very interesting so we didn't check out any of the advertised facilities. We did notice that the grounds weren't well cared for and there were quite a few lights burned out and trash laying about. One thing they had plenty of was surveillance cameras mounted everywhere which was kind of creepy and gave the place a kind of prison camp atmosphere that you see in the movies. Only thing missing was the barbed wire and armed guards (although the check in personnel referred to themselves as guards) We got a cheap price and we were on the "Lakeland side" of Disney so we didn't complain and stayed the full time. It's a 9 mile drive just to the exit for Disney and there are two ways to go, I-4 and Hwy 192. Maybe we were there at a bad time but it took over half an hour to get to Disney no matter which way we went. Hwy 192 is a little easier to navigate because I-4 is under repair and we got caught up in that once. We cannot recommend this place for conditions and location although prices are a little lower than any rental homes and condos we searched for west of Disney. We were told they were changing the name to Island Hideaway in early January.
