Ylamaa Tourist Information
Ylämaa is renowned for spectrolite. The Gem Village is the home of workshops for polishers, gem makers, and goldsmiths and silversmiths; these shops are open all year.
The Gem Museum displays various minerals, fossils, polished and unpolished stones, and a speciality: a collection of fluorescent stones. The construction of a genuine pyramid in the Gem Village is being planned. It will be possible for the public to participate in the project in various ways. Gem stones are also presented in the International Gem Fair from 2 Jul to 4 Jul. A Harvest Festival takes place in August.
The Gem Museum is open 1 Jun to 31 Aug Mon to Sun. The rural house milieu at the Pätäri House Museum dates from the 19th century: today the former cowhouse houses a local history museum. Open in summer.
