Yarmouth tourist information

Yarmouth

Since the time of the Vikings, Yarmouth County's shores have welcomed visitors. The Town of Yarmouth is a historic seaport having been the second largest port of the registry in Canada, during the late 1800s. History and Heritage abound and local architecture tells a tale of generations of successful commercial activity. Stroll along our historic walking tour, visit Canada's only provincial Firefighter Museum, home to a major collection of ship paintings and models. Photograph one of the finest lighthouse sites on this continent at Cape Forchu and also the world's smallest drawbridge at Sandford. Swim in our lakes, canoe the rivers, relax on a beach, walk the nature trails and celebrate friendship, food and fun at any of our fourteen Festivals running from June-October. Yarmouth is the regional centre for South Western Nova Scotia and a gateway to the Lighthouse Route and the Evangeline Trail. It is home to an International Airport, two provincial bus lines, and two ferries departing daily in the summer from Bar Harbour and Portland, Maine. The South Western tip of Nova Scotia owes much of its history to the sea and has many links with New England.
