Thiron Gardais Tourist Information

The village owes its name to La Thironne, the delightful little river whose source is here. Set among the verdant hills of the Le Perche region, Thiron Gardais is surrounded by surprisingly unspoilt countryside. It is known for its abbey, founded in 1144 by Saint Bernard of Abbeville. This is not only a famous abbey but also one of France’s 11 top military colleges. Napoleon Bonaparte even had a place here, but he never attended because his father sent him to Brienne, which was more convenient for him.
