Tasinge tourist information
Tåsinge was bridged with Funen in 1966 when Denmark’s first bridge on pillars was built with a height of 40 metres above the sea. The height makes the view from the bridge – either down on the town of Svendborg or over the water a unique experience. If the film producer Morten Koch had to find the perfect film location he would surely have chosen Tåsinge which with its unique village settings, its gardens and apple orchards and characteristic stately homes forms an idyllic snapshot of Denmark from the good old days. On the eastern side of Tåsinge lies the pretty shipmasters’ village, Troense, where you will find streets with numerous listed half-timbered houses from the 18th century. A walk down Troense Strandvej or Grønnegade in May when the fruit trees are blossoming throughout in the well-tended gardens is habit-forming In the middle of Troense and practically opposite the small harbour is Troense maritime collection. On show are photos from the time of the sailing ships and a great many models of old Troense ships are exhibited. A beautiful avenue brings you from Troense to Valdemars Slot, which apart from being one of Denmark’ s biggest private castles also constitutes a manor museum. The castle block houses the museum of trophies of the chase and ethnographics, Denmark’s yachting museum and Denmark’s Toy museum. From Bregninge church, situated on the highest point of the island there is from the spire an impressive view over the entire South Funen archipelago. Directly opposite the church we have Tåsinge Skipperhjem and folklore collection, a collection relating to the love drama of Elvira Madigan and Sixten Sparre that took place in Nørreskoven immediately south of Valdemars Slot where the two lovers ended their lives… Elvira Madigan and Sixten Sparre lie buried in Landet churchyard on Tåsinge.
