Ta U Island Tourist Information

Ta U Island

Ta'u was the spiritual centre of Polynesia prior to Western colonisation and is full of historical significance and archaeological interest. For example, Saua is a sacred site considered by many to be the birthplace of the Polynesian people.

The National Park area on Ta'u includes the beaches and forests in the south-eastern half of the island. The park features 1000 metre high sea cliffs, the tallest in the world. Park staff can arrange guides for hikes, including a six hour hike from Ta'u Village to Judds Crater, a huge, volcanic crater.

Visitors can stay overnight in the villages of Fitiuta, Faleasao or Ta'u.
