Susanino Tourist Information

This ancient town located in Kostroma Region is connected with the exploit of the patriot of the Russian land Ivan Susanin.

In the distant 17th century this courageous man led a troop of enemies to the impassable swamp where he died himself saving the life of future Russian Tsar Mikhail Romanov (ðîäîíà÷àëüíèê äèíàñòèè). On the place of the death of the hero there is a memorial stone and there is an observation ground on the shore of the Yusupovskoe swamp. There remained a chapel that was built in the fame of the 30th anniversary of the exploit of Ivan Susanin. The center of the village is adorned with the church of Ressurection.
