Sumpango Tourist Information
On November 2nd, All Saints' Day, the towns of Santiago Sacatepequez and Sumpango celebrate a festival with giant kites which are unique. According to tradition, the kites are flown to raise the souls of the dead to Heaven and to turn away evil spirits. Manufacture of the kites begins many weeks before, and the entire family participates. Both in Santiago and in Sumpango, the participants in the festival compete for the best design.
