Stramberk Tourist Information

This small town with a square was founded by Jan Jindrich, the brother of Emperor Karel IV. (Charles IV), nearby an old castle in the middle of the 14th century. The castle keep, which is known as Truba, along with a watch tower and rampart ruins, which date from the Middle Ages (the 13th century), mark dominant features the town. The square is flanked with baroque and classic houses. Two remarkable suburbs, which are located on the slopes below the castle, include folk timber cottages. The local confectionery´s speciality known as "stramberske usi" ("Stramberk Ears"), which is still being backed in this town, reminds us of the Turkish siege. The famous Sipka cave, where a jawbone of a Neanderthal child and a number of other utilities from the Older Stone Age were discovered, is situated on the foot-hill of the opposite Kotouc peak.
