Shkodra Tourist Information
Shkodra is the centre of Northern Albania. It is situated near the lake of Shkodra and the rivers of Drini, Kiri and Bojana. Shkodra has been the capital of Illyria when Agroni was the Emperor in the II century b.c. It was then invaded by Romans, Bulgarians, Serbs and Ottomans. On the boulevard of Shkodra is the Popular Museum with objects of "artizanat" (hand-made) and depositions of Albanian culture and costumes. In the house of Pashko Vasa, a legendary writer, is the museum of the League of Prizren. There is much information on the life of the writer and all the documents of the League of Prizren, who fought in the Congress of Berlin for the Independence of Albania.
Shkodra has been the centre of Northern Albanian culture for all times. In 1555 the first document of Albanian language was written here by Gjon Buzuku. The castle of Rozafa, built in the period of Agron, is a demonstration of the importance of this city.
The people of Shkodra are very pleasant. They are very friendly, and their language is beautiful. They speak a pleasant dialect, well-known all over Albania.
Near Shkodra there is a beautiful beach, Velipoja. This beach is situated in the Adriatic sea with many travel possibilities.
