Savitaipale Tourist Information

Savitaipale is situated by Lake Kuolimojärvi, known for its fish, arctic char. The history of the municipality is presented by the permanent exhibition at the Church Builders' Museum set up in honour of the workers who built the wooden churches, and the Hakamäki House Museum area which gives an impression of old rustic culture. The museums are open from 1 Jun to 15 Aug Tuesdays to Sundays 12am - 6pm.

Part of the chain of fortresses in south-eastern Finland, the Kärnäkoski Fortress deriving from the 1790s and the barge port in Partakoski are an attraction with historical interest.

The Partakoski dinghy port by Lake Saimaa serves pleasure boat travellers with a pier for visitor's boats, a village shop, bar, fuel service point and waste disposal. There is a delightful view from the Ruhtinaanmaja (Prince's Villa) to Lake Saimaa.

The beautiful natural surroundings offer good opportunities for sports and nature activities. You can choose from, for example, guided summer or winter fishing excursions, kick sled or sleigh rides, and rowing trips in an old church boat. An indoor skating rink offers facilities for both team sports and individual skaters. The service and activity centre in the centre of Savitaipale offers the chance for a refreshing swim in the pool.

The summer event Sapassi takes place in July. During the week, there is a national championship competition in church boat rowing for entrepreneurs, pedal car competition, theatre, music and a dance in the loft of a cow shed.
