Rakvere Tourist Information
The first information about Rakvere comes from the second half of the 13th century, when the wooden castle of the ancient Estonians existed on Vallimäe. In 1302 Rakvere got its town bylaws. Its newer stone fortress was built by the Livonian Order, and it was expanded under the Swedes and Russians. Places of Interest: The ruins of the stone fortress are worth visiting. Down the hill from castle is an old manor house, the Rakvere Museum, and what is left of Rakvere's old town. Rakvere's 14th century church boasts a three-tiered gallery and a 16th century pulpit.
