Lohals Tourist Information
Peace and the wild - both can be experienced in Lohals and Hov on the northernmost part of Langeland. You can see wild animals at the impressive trophy collection at Tom Knudsens Safari Museum. Otherwise we are really out in the hilly countryside. From the main road at Hov one can see water on both sides of the island. Near Lohals you will also find the islands largest forest. The forest is also fascinating for those who are interested in history. According to myth Spanish mercenaries in 1807 made camp beside a large boulder in the forest. This stone has been named 'The Camp Stone' and can be seen in Bremlevænge forest south of Lohals. The north coast has a special nature. Take a walk along the beach past the steep Franke cliff and continue to the still operational Hou Lighthouse (build in 1893) on the east side.
We are in an oldfashioned tourist area. In the plantation on the north tip of the island there nestles a group of summer houses from 1919 - the 'Copenhagen Colony'. Many of the houses are still owned by Copenhagen families who in the 'good old days' took to the country complete with servants. It was a wide spread enjoyment that the locals would sit by the harbour and watch the 'summer guests', as they were called, arrive buy ferry at the beginning of the summer. The harbour still has a special character, complete with its restaurants. Near by there is both the busy yacht harbour and camping site. This popular sports fishing area, and for those who want to go to sea and fish, there are several places where you can hire a boat in Lohals.
