Litomysl Tourist Information

Litomysl was promoted to a town in the middle of the 13th century and its significance rose one hundred years later, when the second episcopate in Bohemia was established here. The elongated street square with a series of citizen houses at the roadsides is a typical feature of this town. The Renaissance House "U rytíou" (Near the Knights) with valuable stone decoration is the most important of these houses. The Church of St. Cross Retrieval from the 18th century and the representative Renaissance chateau, which is one of the most valuable ones in the Czech Republic, dominate the town. The Smetana´s Litomysl Opera Festival and the Young Smetana´s Litomysl Festival are held annually here in honour of the major Czech composer. In the town, you can also visit the Vachala Museum known as PORTMONEUM and an exhibition of a classic collection of antique statue replicas.
