Litomerice Tourist Information

Litoměřice is one of the oldest and most significant towns of the Czech Republic. It is situated in a fertile lowland along the Labe (Elbe) and Ohoe Rivers. The Poemyslid family let (rented??) the chapter house with a Romanic basilica built in the 11th century. In the Baroque period, the basilica was re-built as a bishop's residence along with St. Stephen´s Cathedrale. You can see a number of outstanding mainly Renaissance buildings on the square, among them a town hall, the house "U eerného orla" (Near the Black Eagle), the House "Kalich" and others. The architects, both the father and the son of the Broggi family, are responsible for a major part of the Baroque appearance of the city. At present, the town of Litomioice is famous for its traditional agricultural fair known as the "Garden of Bohemia".
