Jogeva Tourist Information

The name Jõgeva was first mentioned in Polish revision letters in 1599 as Jagiwa. Jõgeva was a village for centuries, until 1876 when the railway line to Tartu was completed. In 1903 the landowner began to redistribute land along 2 km of the road connecting the railway station to his estate. This became the main street. Even in 1919 there were only 95 houses and 817 people in Jõgeva. Later, in 1938, it was given the status of a town and became capital of its own county - Jõgeva County. Places of Interest: The town´s most prominent institution is the plant research centre. The flower gardens of Rudolph Tamme are decorated with statues by the Estonian sculptor Anton Starkop
