Jicin Tourist Information

Jičín is located in the Český ráj region (the Czech Paradies) and was originally a wooden town. Albrecht from Valdštejn re-built the town in stone at the beginning of the 17th century. He built an early Baroque chateau, a summer house with loggia, a new decanal church and a complex of Jesuit's buildings according to an ambitious project designed by an Italian architect. The Valdická Gate marks an important feature of the town. The present classical appearance of the town and chateau arose in the period after the fire in 1768. Among other things, Jicin is well-known as a town of fairy-tails in honour of the fabulous robber known as Rumcajs and his author, the writer Václav Čtvrtek.
