Imbassai Tourist Information
Imbassai
SERVICES Hotels Inns Popular Festivals Resorts Restaurants The name Imbassaí, which in Tupi means "watercourse", was given by the first inhabitants of the region, the indians. This is a perfect name because the area is full of rivers that run along dunes until they meet the ocean. The city is situated in the "Linha Verde Environmental Protection Area", which is located 63km far from Salvador and only 13km from Praia do Forte.
Imbassaí started to explore the ecotourism only a few year ago, when the "Linha Verde" (Green Line) was inaugurated. From that day on, the small village has been developing a good infrastructure with the opening of several hotels and resorts. The town has also a lot of bars, restaurants and inns.
The river Imbassaí runs parallel to 6 km of beaches surrounded by high dunes and offers a refreshing swim on its calm waters. On the sand stretch between the beach and the river there are many beach huts that offer cold beverages, snacks and the traditional "acarajé". The access to the beaches is only possible for pedestrians, thanks to the rivers that form a natural obstacle for cars.
