Heidelberg Ontario Tourist Information

Less than a mile-east of St. Clements, on Regional Road 15 the Trail reaches Heidelberg which straddles the Wellesley-Woolwich Township Line. Good shopping, good lodging and good eating are among the delights to be found. The village was originally settled by many Lutherans. Now the majority of residents work in the cities and Heidelberg is notably a "bedroom community" to the Twin Cities, or a pub stop at the famous Heidelberg Hotel, with its Restaurant and Brew Pub.

From Heidelberg, the Trail continues north on Regional Road 16, where the well kept farms of Mennonite farmers are located. Upon reaching Regional Road 17, it continues north and then around the bend. On the left are the remains of "Kuhn's Mountain", all that is left of a once-challenging motorcycle hill climb site. Here hundreds of loads of sand, gravel, concrete and asphalt leave weekly to supply the needs for roads and building construction in the Twin Cities and area.

Continuing west on Regional Road 17, up the hill and almost over, on the right, is a most spectacular view of the Conestogo River Valley. Flanking both sides of the river and in the immediate area of Hawkesville are many farms owned for the most part, by Mennonite farmers who use horses and buggies for transportation. If one is lucky, one will see horsedrawn implements in use during spring seeding, summer harvest and even a cutter or sleigh if enough snow has fallen in winter.
