Gudme Tourist Information
Gudme equals family warmth, village communities, fishing hamlets and varying sceneries. Go for the 17 km long shoreline with its child-friendly beaches and superb angling, that’s where you find your most attractive holiday haven. A number of fine camping sites and several nice B & B places offer good overnight facilities. The special atmosphere of the fishing hamlet Lundeborg is especially attractive to yachting people, and the hinterland offers scenic landscapes and five impressive manor houses
The Gudme area was a trading centre in the Iron age functioning as a trade link with the roman empire and remained for nearly 400 years the most important cult- and power centre in Denmark. Many farmsteads and houses have been excavated where gold-, silver- and bronze-smiths were working. Also buildings for the prince and his warriors centred on the Gudme-King’s hall discovered in 1993. The many finds can be viewed in the Svendborg museum and at the national Museum in Copenhagen. A poster exhibition has been put up at the Gudme King’s hall in Gudme.
