Goiania
Goiânia, the capital of Goiás' State, with about 30% of green area, has woods, arborous streets and ecological parks that guarantee the life quality of its inhabitants. Among them, there's the Bosque dos Buritis (Buritis Woods), with 140 thousand of m², which decorates the city mainly with native buriti palm samples, a palm specie with yellow fruit.
The modern design of Goiânia, known as the spring's capital, facilitated its functionality on the beginning. The accelerated growth rhythm prevented that the planning was strictly followed, but didn't prevent that it kept the original idea which was to preserve the green and florid area.
The Bosque dos Buritis houses the Monumento à Paz Mundial (World Peace Monument), the masterpiece of the goiano artist plastic Siron Franco. On that place, a land with over 50 countries is mixed to an sandglass of seven meters of height, which is made with concrete and glass with 40 tons of capacity. Annually, more lands are deposited, in a ceremony performed on the environment world day.
Other Franco's masterpieces, as well other Brazilian artists, are exposed on Museu de Arte de Goiânia (Goiânia Art Museum), constructed within the woods. Goiânia also has the Jardim Botânico Chico Mendes (Chico Mendes Botanical Garden), with attractions such as the bird sound, the lake and the biological reserves with fructiferous trees, orchid and bromellias.
