Glenella Manitoba Tourist Information
The Rural Municipality of Glenella is located in scenic southwestern Manitoba. Glenella is approximately 96 kilometres northeast of Manitoba's second largest city, Brandon. The community of Glenella is the largest centre in the municipality. Glenella is easily accessible by Provincial Road 261 (just off of Provincial Trunk Highway 5). The community of Glenella is situated at the junction of Provincial Roads 261 and 462.
The Rural Municipality of Glenella was incorporated in 1920, however the area was settled long before this. In the late 1800's the railroad went through. On November 18, 1897 they erected a combined station and section house naming it Glenella, after Miss Ella Williams, a sister-in-law to Sir Donald Mann. The early settlers in this area were of Scottish and English descent. By the early 1900's European settlers started to arrive, with a large German settlement in the Waldersee area.
