It is fitting that the Peace Bridge from Buffalo to Canada crosses at Fort Erie. Here, where the town originated in 1764, it was established as a British military outpost, and entrusted to keep the peace along the Niagara River. Clearly, Fort Erie's adjacency to the United States makes it one of the primal Canadian gateways welcoming millions of visitors who cross the bridge each year from New York State.

From Canada Day, July 1st to Independence Day, July 4th, the Fort Erie Friendship Festival celebrates the USA/Canada partnership with concerts, fireworks, and colourful festivities on both sides of the border.
