Darda Tourist Information

Except for the important monument (the castle), Darda is also known for a large number of inns and restaurants offering specialities of the Baranja region. The rich hunting grounds managed by the Hunting and Forestry Farm "Jelen" from Darda are in the immediate vicinity. The nearby fishponds, the Drava and the Danube rivers and their backwaters surrounding Kopacki Rit Nature Park offer angling opportunities.

DARDA, a town in Baranja, 13 km north of Osijek; elevation 85 m; population 6,751. Chief occupations include farming, forestry, food processing, fodder production, metal industry, reed processing and hunting tourism. Darda is located on the main road (M17.01 E73) Osijek Beli Manastir.

A road ran from Osijek toward Bilje and Darda as early as the ancient times. In 1566 the Turks erected the famous Suleiman's Bridge, actually a road supported by columns, which led from Osijek over the Drava to Darda (8-odd km); the remains have not been preserved. Apart from the classicist manor Esterházy, Darda has two Baroque-style churches: the Catholic parish church of St. John the Baptist from the beginning of the 18th century (badly damaged in 1991) and the Orthodox church of St. Michael dating from 1777 with predominantly classicist-style church furnishings.
