Corumba
It can be considered Southern Pantanal’s capital because the Corumbá city, 440 km far from Campo Grande, contains the major part of Pantanal area from Mato Grosso do Sul state. It’s to the sides of Paraguai river, one of the main ways to the exploitation of the region. It’s also the main way of earth access to Bolivia, from Brazil.
The city hosts a lot of tourists seeking for being in contact with Pantanal environment. The visitor has the chance of walking around a real natural zoo, Estrada Parque (Park Road), and being hosted in one of the isolated farms on Pantanal. To those who like fishing there is housing and all necessary structure on the fishings to the edge of the fishy rivers or on modern charter ships. Corumbá is also an excellent place for knowing the Pantanal culture for its craft and cookery.
Visit to Estrada Parque (Park Road) Earth road with 120 km length and 87 wooden bridges, which was used as a connection to Corumbá. Farms located on the Pantanal interior have been adapted in order to host tourists. They organize visits to rivers and forests to the observation of animals on so called photo safaris. On some of them, the visitor can also accomplish the daily farming activities. The access to them may be by boat or by airplane. It’s a good way of knowing the Pantanal man and his culture.
An interesting way of knowing one leg of the most important river on Pantanal. The stroll can take all the day or only some hours. Lunch on board and a stop for fishing is included. Pantanal’s food Simple restaurants serve typical dishes prepared with fishes from the region. Suggestions: fry pacu, pintado à urucum and the famous piranha soap.

Corumbá is 440 km far from Campo Grande, by the road BR-262. The city has an airport with regular flights. Buses depart from the capital and from big cities on the country.
