Comalapa Tourist Information

Comalapa, in the Department of Chimaltenango, is a Kakchiquel community outstanding for its primitive paintings inspired by local life and customs. Andrés Curruchich is one of the leading painters, although the work of many other people from Comalapa has been shown in important museums and galleries in Guatemala and other parts of the world. Also outstanding are Comalapa textiles, particularly huipiles (women's blouses), with geometrical and animal designs woven directly on the backstrap loom.
