Cheb Tourist Information
Cheb is one of the oldest towns in the Czech Republic and its history reaches back to the 11th century. In the following century the town appearance was changed significantly. The Romantic castle, which became an imperial fold (the only one in the Czech Republic), and the Chapel of St. Erhard and Uršula (a two-story building) were built here by Friedrich Barbarossa. The picturesque square with characteristic cellar roofs and half-timbered Špalíček building or the Gothic parish Cathedral of St. Nicholas and Elizabeth. The ancient house No. 3 (now part of the Cheb Museum) is a well-known place, where General Albrecht from Valdštejn was slain in 1634. Other significant church constructions and the monumental Town Hall were built in the Baroque period. Even at present a mixture of different cultures is evident. The town of Cheb became a natural and lively centre of the Egrensis Euro-region.
