Charlevoix Quebec Tourist Information
The history of Charlevoix extends back to a time when Québec was still known as New France. An immense territory that extends from Québec City to Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean to Manicougan, Charlevoix was named for Father François-Xavier de Charlevoix, the first historian of New France.
In 1898, Charlevoix was named a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve for its unique combination of magnificent nature and traditional culture. The varied landscape of the Charlevoix region includes the majestic Laurentian Mountains, rolling valleys, the gentle salt waters of the St. Lawrence River, and the scenic areas of Baie Saint-Paul and Isle-aux-Coudres.
Sports enthusiasts are right at home in Charlevoix, year round. The region is home to two ski resorts, three golf courses and family recreation centres, and the naturally challenging terrain makes for great hiking, bicycling, snowmobiling and dog sledding. Visit Charlevoix and learn how "la belle province" of Québec earned its nickname.
