Charleroi
Economic and cultural center of an agglomeration of almost a half million inhabitants, the town of Charleroi is a significant node of motorway, railway and river communication. Carry of Ardenne, it profits from a privileged establishment, with fifty kilometers in the south of Brussels, the capital of Europe, to a hundred kilometers in the east of the metropolis inhabitant of Lille. Our city is member of the Eurocities network and member of the Community of the ARIANE Cities .
Carolos (inhabitants of Charleroi) are known for their enthusiasm, their generosity, their kindness and their joy in life... For them, the reception and hospitality want to really say something. With its malls, its places, its parks, its arteries and shopping centres like its tourist infrastructures and of leisures, Charleroi is a convivial city where it is good to walk and make shopping . Each week, the Sunday market drains thousands of people come sometimes by far. Its cordial and picturesque environment is not to be missed under any pretext.
Formerly capital of the Black Country, one of the most prosperous basins of the Industrial revolution specialized in the production of coal, steel and glass, Charleroi is today a large city in full urbanistic and environmental reconversion.

The reputation of the Palate of Beautiful Arts , of the Museum of Photography , Charleroi Danse... largely exceeded the borders of Belgium. Charleroi is the cradle of the Belgian data base with the School of Marcinelle illustrated by the Dupuis Editions. You will meet Spirou besides and Fantasio, Marsupilami, Lucky Luke, Boule and Bill, Dalton... at the time of your stroll in the centre town or by borrowing the subway.
Carolos like to cultivate their folklore and to divide it with their hosts. At the time of the carnival of Fatty Tuesday, Gilles and giants invade the city. The festivities finish saturdays by the famous masked ball of Climbias, a philanthropic association more than centenaire.
The processions and the steps napoléoniennes of Between Sambre and Meuse are as many events which gather each summer of the thousands of walkers and appearing in costumes of time. Their origin goes back to several centuries. The fairs of Easter and August transform the heart of the city into immense fun fair.
Since 1991, Charleroi obtained one Project of City which determines its strategy of development. It also adopted in 1994 a charter Charleroi 21 which defines essential qualities that it ambitionne to have. Charleroi wants to be a metropolitan city, open on the world, balanced, convivial, interdependent, young, which associate its elder, chlorophyl, which looks after its image, where it is good to live, mobile, cleansed, in good health, which learn, which works, innovating, cultural, sporting, making safe, partner...
