Carman Manitoba Tourist Information
Carman is located at the junction of Highways 3 and 13, just 40 minutes southwest of Winnipeg (the capital city of Manitoba). Carman is situated in the heart of a rich prairie agricultural belt, and just 60 kilometres north of the United States border.
Carman was built on the banks of the meandering Boyne River, and incorporated as a town in 1905. The community served as an agricultural and commercial service centre to the surrounding area, and continues in that role today. Carman has also become home to a number of manufacturing firms and other businesses that have come to take advantage of all that it has to offer. The landscape around the town is made up of gently rolling prairie fields.
The Town of Carman has a very distinct character that sets it apart from other western Canadian locations. The town has a population of 2705 people, and serves a market area of over 15,000.
Many attribute Carman's unique character to it's successful integration of old to new architecture. Stately old homes and well-kept yards grace the same neighborhoods as ultra-modern condomiunium projects. A seniors' housing complex is located only a few blocks from the historic town hall and clock tower. The turn-of-the-century United Church reflects a town with a sense of history - while the modern Carman Memorial Hospital demonstrates a community with 21st-century priorities.
Carman has a thriving senior-citizen population, with many attractions that make it an ideal place to retire. On the other hand, Carman's excellent education system and abundant recreation opportunities make it first choice with younger families. And for the older and younger alike, Carman is a safe place to live. It offers the security and lower crime rates that come with a rual environment.
