The discreet charm of the city and the kindness of its locals do stand for the title “The Princess of Abrolhos” Caravelas has been given throughout the years. The city, which is 863Km far from Salvador (reached by BR-101and BA-001), is very well known and visited for its proximity to Parque Nacional Marinho dos Abrolhos (Abrolhos National Marine Park), 32 nautical miles far from it.
The wonderful Kitongo, Grauçá, Iemanjá beaches, the Cassumba and Pontal do Sul islands, and the mangrove are also part of Caravelas natural resources. The mother Church of Santo Antônio – the city’s patron saint – and the Santa Efigênia church, which have rare statues from the XVII and XVIII centuries as well as the colonial-styled houses, whose facades show Portuguese ornamental tiles from Macau can be highlighted amongst the city’s cultural attractions.
