Canoa Quebrada, the fishermen village discovered by hippies at 1970's, has become a popular tourist pole on Ceará, known on Brazil and outside. Each day more and more tourists seek for the beautiful beaches with white sand dunes and red cliffs. It has kilometers of beaches with blue water from the sea that can be explored on foot or by buggy tours. On the narrow and without pavement streets, there are a lot of people searching for fun. Mainly on so-called "Broadway" that concentrates bars with dancing and listening music. However, the first inhabitants still keep traditional practices, as using raftings for fishing. Many houses are still rustic, with walls built in with clay and craft roofs.
Almost all hotels and inns are simple, although being equipped. The restaurants serve nice dishes of fishes prepared from typical cearenses recipes. A typical craft on this part of the coastline are bottles containing pictures painted with colorful sand.
To the east and to the west of Canoa Quebrada, there are a lot of beaches with different forms, but with the same beautiful blue sea and white sand dunes. Some of them have enormous cliffs with shades varying from orange to red. Other ones have fishermen villages. There are also places for fishing and diving. The most beautiful beaches of this part of the coastline are Canoa Quebrada, Ponta Grossa and Lagoa do Mato.
Apart from the village, there are 50 km of beaches till Ponta Grossa, where there is a fishermen village. It's a stroll on a buggy without roof what offers a direct contact with dunes, cliffs and blue sea from the border of the region.
When the night is come, a lot of people go to Broadway, the main street on Canoa Quebrada. There are the most grooving and visited bars on the village. There's a lot of music, including all genders, from forró to dance music, from Brazilian popular music to blues. On the high season, and on any full moon night, there are luaus and parties on the tents located on the beach. Generally, the parties go on till the sun comes up.
AMost of inns have good dependencies, offering a least comfort. There are restaurants with different specialties, including the ones specialized in dishes prepared based on fishes. Aracati, seat of the town of which Canoa Quebrada is part, has a few bank branches.
Canoa Quebrada is 170 km far from Fortaleza, Ceará's capital. You can get there by the BR-116 and BR-304 roads. Or you can go by the CE-040 road, passing by Cascavel city. A few buses depart directly from Fortaleza to Canoa. The option is to go to Aracati, far from 9 km, which offers the biggest number of trips coming from capital.
