The Indian tribe of Espírito Santo, catechized by the Jesuits, was where the administration of Vila Nova de Abrantes do Espírito Santo, founded in 1758, worked. Even tough it has one of the biggest petrochemicals poles of the country, the city offers the most amazing beaches in Coconut Coast - Arembepe is remarkable as the most famous hippie village of the 70's.
Camaçari has also a great number of preservation units in its territory, like the "Cinturão Verde de Proteção do Complexo Petroquímico de Camaçari", Dunas de Abrantes and Garcia D´Ávila's Parks.
