
Bucaramanga tourist information
Bucaramanga, is a beautiful city which is known as the city of parks. It is the industrial and comercial center of the northeast section of the Country. Bucaramanga was founded in 1622 by Andrés Pérez de Sotomayor, in what was then the dominion of the Indian Chief Bucarica. Industry, commerce and services are the main economic sources of the municipality of Bucaramanga. In this municipality are numerous businesses dedicated to the production of beverages, cement, cigarettes, preserves, agricultural machinery, automotive parts, garment industry, footwear and chemical and pharmaceutical products. Its strategic position as the main route to northeastern Colombia has contributed to its intense commercial activity. The municipality has many places of interest. Some of the outstanding ones are: The Capilla de los Dolores, a jewel from the colonial period, it is the oldest church in the city; the Catedral de la Sagrada Familia in front of Santander park, is one of the most beautiful in the region; the Casa de Peru de Lacroix, where this European official wrote the Bucaramanga Diary, a human and psychological profile of Simón Bolívar; the Casa de la Cultura Custodio García Rovira, which is the Museo de Bellas Artes; the Casa de Bolívar, where the Liberator stayed; here also is the site of the Academia de Historia, the Biblioteca Pública Municipal Gabriel Turbay and the Jardín Botánico Eloy Valenzuela in Floridablanca. Bucaramanga has an important hotel infrastructure and offers its visitors modern shopping malls with all the conveniences necessary to carry out their purchases. Among the events that take place throughout the year are: the Feria Bonita, the Festival de Música Andina Colombiana Luis A. Calvo, the Festival Internacional de Piano, el Festival de Títeres, and the Semana Nacional del Tiple.
