Bruderheim Alberta Tourist Information

Bruderheim is a modern and prosperous farming centre with a diverse background. The area, which is located only 37 km. (23 mi.) north-east of Edmonton, was settled in 1894 by a colony of German Moravians. Under the leadership of Andreas Lilge, they organized the first congregation of the Moravian Church in western Canada, naming it Bruderheim, "Home of the Brethren." In 1974, Bruderheim was an inconspicuous village of 350. Since then the population has more than tripled, brought about by the growth of petro-chemical plants in the large industrial area immediately west of town.
