Broby Tourist Information
Funen´s largest river, Odense Å, runs through Brobyværk. A recently-opened tourist attraction is a fish passage which has been made at the dam by the counth of Funen. This is a huge step in ensuring free passage for fish along Funen´s waterways. The Brobyværk passage allows fish free access to the remaining half of the hinterland around Odense Å. Between 1648-1658 the Brobyværk Arms Company, one of the Funen´s earliest industries, produced weapons for the Danish army alongside this river. In 1648 seventeen noblemen, led by Lord High Constable Anders Bille, established a large waterdriven hammer works on Odense Å(river). 4000 swords, 1000 muskets and 2000 axes were manufactured for sommon soldiers between 1649-1652. The armes company existed from 1648-1658. Today a beautiful descriptive monument has been erected opposite Brobyværk Kro (inn). Sdr. Broby has a protected water mill with a working water wheel. The mill´s former outbuildings and house have been concerted to modern apartments. Broby´s six churches, which are all open by day, are definitely worth a visit for those interested in history. The largest of these churches, a Romansque building in raw granite, is located in Nørre Broby. The church has an impressive altarpiece dating from the fifteenth century. The stately home at Sandholt is an impressive sight with its well-kept timberframed outbuildings. This stately home is one of the noteworthy builings in Broby. Also worth a nemtion is the barn near Lundegaard, north of Broby, built in 1636 by Ellen Marsvin. Trente Mølle (mill) is an ancient water mill which has also functioned in the past as a bakery, lamp factory and mushroom nursery. trente Mølle is owned by the Forestry and Nature Administration and is the setting for many activities, including nature walks, school camps, exhibitions and courses. Trente Mølle is an excellent starting point for short walks or rambles on the area´s natural pathways. Lærkedal Logcabin, which is owned by the Forestry Commission, is available for rent for school camps etc. The area is planted with trees and has public access.
