Brist Tourist Information

Brist is a picturesque place for pleasant and peaceful vacations in the extreme south of the Makarska Riviera. Special attractions are olive-groves and sources of potable water, as well as a series of pebble coves. Sports and recreational opportunities include water sports or hiking tours on Biokovo (Viter).

BRIST, a village and small harbour in the cove of the same name on the coast of the southern Makar-ska littoral, 8 km north of Ploce; population 374. It is known for its mild climate (the "vruljska" bora is much weaker here). Economy is based on farming, viticulture, olive growing and fishing. The coast around Brist features a number of coves (Na Ploci, Blatnice, Pod Pecu, Slakovac, Pakljine, Smrdeljac, Litnoga and Zaborci). Brist is located on the main road Split - Dubrovnik (M2, E 65).

The old parish church, dedicated to St. Marguerite, was built in 1741 and houses the tomb of the Kacic family from the 18th century. Near the church is a large, luxuriantly adorned Bogomil tombstone. In the hamlet of Kacici, in the immediate vicinity of the old church, is the birth-house of the great Croatian poet Father Andrija Kacic Miosic. Several late Baroque mansion structures were built close to the sea in the 18th century. The new parish church of St. Mary was erected in 1870, close to the sea and in the neo-Romanesque order; next to it is also the monument to Father A. Kacic Miosic, a work by I. Mestrovic.
