Brbinj Tourist Information
Brbinj, enclosed by pines and olive-trees, offers excellent opportunities for a pleasant and peaceful rest. Water sports opportunities are also provided. Brbinj offers excellent home-made specialities. Several times during the tourist season, large coastal ferries dock here also (ferry lines Rijeka - Split - Greece and Zadar - Ancona).
BRBINJ, a village in the cove of the same name on the north-eastern coast of the island of Dugi Otok (Long Island), 12 km south of Bozava; population 168. Chief occupations are farming and fishing. The northern part of the cove is protected from all winds, the outer part being exposed to the bora. Smaller yachts may dock in the cove. The village is surrounded by pine woods and olive-groves. Ferry line Zadar - Brbinj.
The parish church of Sts. Cosmas and Damian was first mentioned in 1195. Petar Franic-Hacuc, a constructor from Zadar, was also working on it in the period 1435-1442. The south-eastern part of the village houses the ruins of a fortified castle of the Soppe family, with a chapel from the 16th century. The remains of an early Christian church are found on an islet called Utra (skolj), northwest of the village.
