Bourke Tourist Information

Bourke is situated alongside the Darling River and the Mitchell highway, and used to be a major river port. There are some interesting buildings around the town and some beautiful mountains to visit nearby. Mt. Oxley is very attractive as is Mt. Gunderbook with its springtime wildflowers and Aboriginal cave art. Another nearby Aboriginal site is at Brewarrina which means ‘good fishing’. There are Fisheries around here which were traps used by the Ngemba Aboriginal people to catch fish. There is a range of accommodation in Bourke and the surrounding area, which can be accessed from Dubbo by bus several times a week.
