Bombala Tourist Information

Bombala takes you back in history and back to nature in every sense. Nestled between the Snowy Mountains and the sparkling Sapphire Coast, Platypus Country offers an ever-changing experience uniquely Australian in every way.

Its diverse natural environment is centred around the sweeping ‘High Plains’ of rollings pastures and weathered monoliths and dense native forests, all intersected by a network of rivers and streams, providing some of Australia’s finest fly-fishing locations for trout. These pristine waterways are also home to the densest populations of Platypus in New South Wales which have their own sanctuary with viewing area just on the edge of town.

The magnificent South East Forest National Park is criss-crossed by a network of forest drives and walking tracks where you can trek between the stunning Myamba Gorge and Pheasants Peak, camping overnight among the towering gums of Waratah Road Campsite. Or you can take the drive and view option and enjoy the picnic and viewing facilities offered at these breathtaking natural attractions. On your travels you’ll also discover the remarkable Errinunda Rainforest with giant tree ferns and native waratahs.

Sites of historic significance are scattered throughout the area including the Woolingubrah Inn, the Delegate Settlers Cottage and many other unique examples of our pioneering past. Enjoy the beauty of our rural scene, rolling pastures and sprawling homesteads at Mila, Ando, Bungarby and Bibbenluke, icons of Australian country life.

For the more energetic there are dedicated mountain bike trails, horse riding and canoeing, whatever your pursuit you’ll find it in Bombala, heart of the beautiful and historic South East of New South Wales.
