Bizovac Tourist Information
BIZOVAC, a village in the region of Slavonia, 8 km south of Valpovo; elevation 90 m; population 2,235. Chief occupations are farming and tourism; health resort with hyperthermal mineral water. Bizovac is located on the main road (M3) Osijek Nasice and the railroad Osijek Koprivnica.
The parish church of St. Matthew was built in 1802.
Tourism started to flourish in Bizovac in 1974 when Bizovacke Toplice Spa was built. The spa is the largest one in eastern Croatia and has a high visitor rate throughout the year. The vicinity of the city of Osijek as well as good road and railway connections enable many visitors seeking rest, entertainment and medical treatment to come there. The spa Bizovacke Toplice frequently hosts seminars, conferences and athletes. As the best equipped spa in Croatia, Bizovacke Toplice deserves the title of the first Croatian thermal riviera.
Bizovacke Toplice developed as a consequence of search for oil and natural gas deposits. Water attaining 96 °C was found at the depth of 2,000 m. Hyperthermal water, the hottest in Croatia and rarely found elsewhere in Europe, has a salt content of 25 ‰, and is rich in various minerals (sodium, potassium, lithium, magnesium, barium, chlorine, strontium), and helps in treatment of a variety of diseases (rheumatism, psoriasis, respiratory diseases, gynaecological, neurological and other disorders).
The spa offers a multitude of sports and recreational opportunities. Apart from the outdoor and indoor swimming pools with a number of attractive facilities (aquagan, musical cave, water mushroom, streams, waterfalls, whirlpools, sauna, steam baths, etc.), fitness studio, solarium, bowling alley as well as tennis, table tennis, basketball, handball, volleyball, cycling etc. are also at visitors' disposal. The broader surroundings provide good hunting and angling opportunities.
The rich folklore heritage of the region of Bizovac, cherished by the cultural and art society of Bizovac, is being presented in and outside Croatia.
