Birkenhuegel Tourist Information

Birkenhügel was founded in 1923 by an act of law joining the villages Pirk and Lerchenhügel. Pirk, the older of the two villages, was first mentioned in 1441, whereas Lerchenhügel is one of the youngest villages in the area. There used to be two knight’s estates, which were the livelihood of the inhabitants of the village, who were not allowed to own any land themselves. Lerchenhügel, the younger village was first mentioned in 1787. The area of Birkenhügel borders the following regions: Frössen, Sparnberg, Pottiga and Saaldorf, with a size of 556.7 ha. Near Birkenhügel at about 1.5km the river Saale takes its course, forming the border to the area of Hof. Birkenhügel is found in picturesque landscape with extensive forests rendering it diverse and attractive. There are two inns to feed you and there is a sports field to keep you fit. Birkenhügel is proud of its traditions and has a village festival every summer and a special fun fair every last weekend in October.
